Space, Security, and Policy Education
With a range of space-related courses, certificates, minors, and degrees, Georgia Tech offers an interdisciplinary range of opportunities for students wishing to pursue a career in space sciences, policy, or industry.
Courses
CSPIR faculty teach courses that introduce students to international space policy, security, and sustainability. These classes equip students with the critical thinking, analytical, and technical skills needed to navigate the rapidly evolving space sector. Through case studies, policy simulations, and applied projects, students learn to connect space technology with real-world governance and industry challenges.
Space Policy
This course is a survey of international space policy issues that includes examination of the origins, evolution and range of current challenges and debates in international space policy issues, including civil, military, and commercial activities.
Space Security
This course examines the challenges of sustainability and security in the space domain caused by the increasingly congested, contested, and competitive nature of space activity.
Space Sustainability
This course navigates the push and pull between sustainable space policy and practice over the history of space operations. Students earn familiarity with the data resources and analysis tools they need to model long-term orbital congestion and develop evidence-based policy recommendations.
Certificates
Georgia Tech offers graduate certificates in areas such as astrobiology and space entrepreneurship, connecting policy with science and technology. These programs give students the flexibility to tailor their education to specific interests, letting them specialize in emerging areas of the space sector while complementing their primary field of study. By bridging science, engineering, business, and policy, these certificates equip students with the interdisciplinary perspective and practical skills needed to navigate and lead the rapidly evolving space industry.
Astrobiology
The Astrobiology Graduate Certificate forges innovative links between astrobiology research at Georgia Tech, mission technology, and science communication.
Space Entrepreneurship
The Space Entrepreneurship Graduate Certificate Program expands opportunities for students in the field of ‘space entrepreneurship’ and to forge innovative links between different communities conducting space research at Georgia Tech, including space technology, space science, space policy and business entrepreneurship.
