Bio

Josiah Hester is Associate Professor of Interactive Computing and Computer Science at Georgia Tech. Josiah works in sustainable computing and electronics broadly. He works towards a sustainable future for computing informed by his Native Hawaiian (Kānaka Maoli) heritage. He applies his work to health wearables and implantables, interactive devices, and large-scale sensing for conservation, supported by multiple grants from the NSF, NIH, ARPA-H, and the Department of Defense. He explores and develop new material concepts, hardware designs, systems, interaction techniques, tools, curriculum, and programming abstractions so that anyone can learn about, design, debug, and deploy more sustainable computing systems that work despite frequent power failures, constrained resources, and unpredictable conditions.
